The Icon of Friendship, Christ and Abba Menas, Christ and his Friend

Christ and Abbot Mena - the oldest icon of Coptic Church painted in the monastery of Saint Apollo in Bawit, Egypt known as "The Icon of Friendship" is dated to 6th century.

The icon shows two characters, you might say FRIENDS.
Christ with cruciform halo and inscription "Savior" and early Egyptian saint Abbot Mena the superior of the monastery of saint Apollo in Egypt with writing above his head stating - "Father Mena".

Christ is depicted with his arm around his friend Abbot Mena, who represents each one of us.

The icon tells that Christ offers friendship to everyone who is willing to believe in him.

The oryginal icon is in Louvre museum, in Paris.

“I no longer call you servants… I have called you friends”

(John 15, 15).

His arm around our shoulder, His faithful closeness, His power and His love are the only reality that counts.
